Former Test spinner Ashton Agar could miss the start of the Australian domestic summer after injuring his shoulder.

Agar has re-injured his right shoulder in Western Australia's pre-season training, and will miss at least the start of the quadrangular one-day Australian A series which begins in Queensland next month.

Agar had surgery on the shoulder in April, however he may now need to go under the knife again after he sees a specialist next week.

"Scans have confirmed that he has disrupted some of the structures that were surgically repaired in April," Australian physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said.

"He will definitely miss the start of the Quadrangular A series, but whether he takes any part in it and whether he will be fit for the (interstate) One-Day Cup will be determined in due course."

Agar would be the second player to miss the tournament against India A, South Africa A and a National Performance Squad after fast bowler Pat Cummins was withdrawn last month.
