David Warner finding form again with third Test performance

David Warner has continued his return to form with four catches in England's embarrassing capitulation on day two at Headingley.

The batsman, who made a valuable 61 on day one, took sharp catches at first slip to give Josh Hazlewood the first two wickets of England's first innings.

He was particularly animated after swallowing an edge from the England captain Joe Root, who was gone for his second consecutive duck.

Warner's third slips catch removed Lord's centurion Ben Stokes, while the fourth to dismiss Jonny Bairstow was taken whist almost horizontal as the ball flew between him and the keeper.

The 32-year-old had dropped two catches at Lord's and his performance at Leeds was enough to prove that after an ordinary return from his ball-tampering ban, he is back to his confident best.

However, after his gritty first innings, Warner said relief wasn't his primary emotion.

"I don't think it's a weight off the shoulders. I think you look at that class bowling there, you've always got your name on one ball," he told 9NEWS.

"Credit to them, they've bowled well to me. They've obviously got their plans."

Warner also laughed off suggestions his return to form was a result of him losing his beard just before the third test.

"My daughter's been telling me for about eight or nine months now to get rid of it and they're very, very happy," he said.

Warner is still on the nose with England fans, who continue to 'boo' the batsman each time he comes to and from the crease, but it doesn't seem to bother him.

"They're right to do whatever they like here," he said.

"For me, it's just to focus on what I have to do and the job at hand. I don't hear any of that and if I do hear it just revs me on."
