Ashes cricket: Jonny Bairstow given touching gift by fan, gloves signed by late father David

Jonny Bairstow has thanked a generous fan for their touching gesture in gifting him signed gloves once owned by his late father who also played for England.

Former wicketkeeper David 'Bluey' Bairstow passed away in 1998 after taking his own life, something which deeply affected Jonny, who was only eight years old at the time.

Bairstow spoke about the subject and his father's depression in his book, A Clear Blue Sky.

One devoted fan reached out to Bairstow on social media ahead of day three of the second Test to give a cherished piece of cricket memorabilia to the current England wicketkeeper - a pair of gloves signed by his dad.

"A chap called Andrew messaged me on Instagram," Bairstow told ABC Grandstand.

"I don't really normally look at them [messages], but fortunately enough I did and [he had] a pair of wicketkeeping gloves signed by dad in 1978-79.

"It was a fantastic gesture and I thank him ever so much for bringing them."
