UFC strips McGregor of title

Conor McGregor has relinquished his featherweight title and is no longer a two division UFC champion.

The news was announced at the UFC Melbourne event on Sunday.

The Irishman was pretty much forced to give up the belt by UFC bosses  after light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier suffered an injury that forced him out of his bout with Anthony “Rumble” Johnson on December 10 in Toronto.

The new UFC 206 main event will see Max Holloway face Anthony Pettis with the interim featherweight title on the line.

Jose Aldo will then fight the winner of UFC 206 next year.

Those close McGregor say he was expecting the UFC to do something like this to save the card  once the original main event was scratched.

McGregor hasn’t made any public statement about giving up the featherweight title as of yet.
