UFC 322 AS IT HAPPENED: Jack Della Maddalena loses welterweight title as Islam Makhachev produces all-time dominant display

The 155-pound division is likely no longer a thing for the champion.

"This is my dream, all my life I wanted these two belts ... I worked hard for this moment," the 34-year-old said.

"I swear to god, my life has changed. Not cutting weight, I can wrestle for five rounds and I can do whatever I want and it makes this night so easy."

In the octagon, Islam Makhachev made no secret of his distain for cutting weight in the lower weight division.

So it looks like he's staying in welterweight for good.

Asked when he wants to defend the welterweight strap for the first time, Makhachev gave a very simple response and it would have UFC officials licking their lips.

"Donald Trump - let's go, open the White House, I am coming," he said.

It's official: Islam Makhachev is the new welterweight champion.

The judges all scored it 50-45 in favour of the Russian legend.

Less than 20 seconds into the final round, Islam takes JDM down once again.

Islam is looking for a kimura arm lock submission, but JDM evades it thankfully.

"This was the game plan for Islam - complete domination," Joe Rogan said.

"These guys are on a completely different level - Islam and Khabib."

The challenger keeps it on the mat for the entirety of the fifth round and we head to the judges now to make it official.

Devastating outcome for JDM, who was no match for Islam.

"There it is, bell-to-bell a masterpiece," Jon Anik said.

JDM is in clear pain and his right leg is flared up after a series of leg kicks.

Islam takes the fight to the ground again and this is starting to get real ugly.

"He is getting smothered on the ground," Joe Rogan said on commentary.

One round to go and the Aussie needs a Hail Mary to win from here.

JDM looks to be hurt after a fair few calf kicks from the challenger early in the fight.

The champ scores with a combination in close, but Islam backs away with ease and then takes JDM down for a third time with a perfect double leg.

Complete and utter dominance from Islam across the opening three rounds.

"Start hurting this c--t, you've got to put hands on him," Della Maddalena's coach tells him at the end of the third round.

JDM lands a good shot early in the second round but again, Islam continues to apply pressure and works the Aussie down to the ground.

"Jack made a mistake there," Daniel Cormier said on commentary.

The crowd is getting a little bit restless as Islam continues to lay all over JDM.

The challenger lands some elbows from close range but they don't faze JDM too much and eventually, he gets the fight back to the feet with 10 seconds to go.

Another clear round for Islam and it's danger signs after two for the Aussie.

JDM applies some pressure early and shows his intentions right off the bat, but Islam lands with some leg kicks and gets an early takedown.

Islam lays all over the Aussie as he tries to wriggle his way out to no avail.

"This is a completely different level of grappling than he has ever experienced before," Joe Rogan said on commentary.

The challenger looks for a choke late in the round, but JDM holds on and cops a foul for an illegal kick while Islam was on the ground.

Bruce Buffer has introduced both competitors and the time for talk is over.
