A fantastic win for Sam Goodman in the main event after what has been a difficult period for the Aussie world title hopeful.

Harry Garside looked slick in his return despite a controversial ending against Charlie Bell, while the heavyweights stole the show in an epic Australian title bout.

Goodman speaks after his successful return to the ring.

"I tried to get through it without any cuts, but that's not my style this year," he said.

"F--k it was a beauty of a headbutt that got me. It was about managing the fight and listening to my corner and winning the fight.

"It was about getting back here and getting back on the road to world titles. The last six months of my life have been wild. I wouldn't have got through it without you guys.

"A lot of work and a lot of support - it was tough, but I've got all them behind me"

Goodman gets the 99-92, 99-91, 100-90 unanimous decision victory over Vaca.

He keeps his undefeated record in tact.

Goodman felt in control for large periods of the bout, but Vaca never went away.

Quality main event clash in Sydney.

The fighters clash heads and Goodman is cut on his other eye.

Vaca is cautioned by the referee and told not to lead with his head.

"This fight is opening up the further we go," Ben Damon said.

One round to go and Goodman is cut badly.

"He looks disappointed about it," Damon said.

"He appears to be up on the cards despite a couple of rounds of real adversity."

"The Mad Bunch" are certainly up and about now.

Vaca momentarily stuns Goodman, but the referee says it was only a slip.

There's some damage underneath Goodman's eye now, which could be a concern.

"When you see your opponent cut, it's a different momentum feeling," Tim Tszyu said.

Two rounds to go and while Goodman is probably ahead on the scorecards, he can't rest on his laurels against Vaca - especially with some blood being spilled.

Vaca is mixing things up, switching to a southoaw stance at the start of the seventh.

Goodman is warned by the referee now for applying pressure to Vaca's neck.

Another good round for the Aussie. Three rounds to go.

"These are beautiful shots," Ben Damon said.

Tim Tszyu believes that Goodman has won all-but one round so far in this fight.

Vaca gets cautioned by the official for a punch that creeps a little low.

Goodman is walking forward at his Mexican rival and finishes the sixth round doing so.

"He is always trying to dominate the centre of the ring and push his opponent backwards," Tim Tszyu said on commentary.

Goodman sits down on a good right hand at the end of the fifth round, before avoiding some wild shots from Vaca in the final seconds.

We've reached the half-way mark of this contest and it's still definitely in the balance.

Goodman connects with a thunderous body shot and it might have hurt Vaca.

Both fighters exchange solid shots right before the end of the fourth round.
