Sam Goodman's world title bout against Japanese star Naoya Inoue is set to be postponed as the Australian fighter is forced to withdraw due to injury.

The undefeated 26-year-old suffered a cut above his left eye in his final sparring session before flying out to Tokyo on Friday, placing his chances at challenging in the world title fight in limbo.

Goodman reportedly was confident he could still enter the ring to face Inoue come Christmas Eve but his team were against his desires.

Head coach Joel Keegan and manager Pete Mitrevski are reportedly set to pull the pin and postpone the event.

No Limit Boxing have been contacted for comment on the incident.

Goodman required four stitches to mend the cut and has been medically ruled out of action for the next four weeks.

He was the IBF and WBO mandatory for Inoue's title challenge.

Inoue has cleared out the super-bantamweight division in recent years, sitting at 29-0.
