Chilly round breaks new ice for golf

Golf has broken new ground – or more specifically ice – after an enthusiast braved freezing conditions to play a round on a partially frozen lake in the US.

Footage of the bizarre event captures a wetsuit wearing Joshua Nowicki taking to chilly Lake Michigan – one of the five great lakes in North America – on a paddle board with a golf club in tow.

Aiming for small icebergs floating across the top of the lake, Nowicki tees off from his board or a rocky outcrop before paddling through sheet-ice and open water for a diabolical-looking putt.

Seth Hayley, who joined Nowicki in the making of the video, took to social media to offer an explanation for the strange pastime.

"This is how Michiganders do it until the golf courses open," Hayley wrote on a Facebook post.
