Bum slap sparks furore at Mosley-Mayorga media conference

Stoushes at boxing weigh-ins and media conferences are generally as well staged as a WWE bout, but entertaining all the same.

And so it proved when former world champions Shane Mosley and Ricardo Mayorga came face to face ahead of their August 29 fight during a recent media conference in Los Angles.

The combatants had to be prised apart after Mayorga slapped the buttock of Mosley's girlfriend Bella Gonzalez when she bent over in front of him on stage.

On cue, an enraged Mosley lunged at the Nicaraguan, grabbing him around the throat before being pulled away by security.

Gonzalez then delivered an almighty spray, ranting at Mayorga: "Are you f---ing kidding me you goddam idiot.

"I'll beat the s--- out of you. You're (not) going to smack my ass on camera."

Mosley vowed to met out justice when the pair meet in the ring at The Forum, in Inglewood, California.

"I just can’t wait. I’m going to kill him," Mosley said.

"I’m going to get in the ring, go out there and beat him down. I’m going to go right for him and just start throwing punches."

An infuriated Gonzalez then offered Mayorga $10,000 to punch him in the face, before the veteran countered that he would give her $25,000 if he could slap her butt again.

All up the piece of theatre guaranteed the fight some much needed exposure and once again showed what a circus boxing can be.
