Brit becomes world’s fastest 95-year-old

Charles Eugster is proof that there's no age limit to pushing your boundaries.

The retired dentists, who is known as "the world's fittest old age pensioner", has lived up to his reputation after becoming the planet's fastest 95-year-old.

Eugster recently showed a clean pair of heels to smash the world record for his age group in the 200m sprint at the British Masters Indoor Championship.

Running on his own behind a group of athletes in their eighties, the nonagenarian shaved 2.4 seconds off the previous record to finish a lap of the indoor track in London in 55.48 seconds.

The previous mark was set by American Orville Rogers in March 2013, while Usain Bolt's world record for 200m is 19.19 seconds.

Footage of the record-breaking run has gone viral with over 200,000 views alone on YouTube, adding to the legend of Eugster, who has become an international celebrity for his weightlifting and bodybuilding deeds in his nineties.

The Brit has long been a champion of fitness for the elderly, living by the motto: "break off the shackles of convention".

And he says his motivation for staying fit and mobile is a simple one.

"There are more and more of us nonagenarians," Eugster said in a recent interview.

"We need to prove that we are still useful to society and not just a drain on resources.

"I want to set an example for others to follow and I want to inspire the next generation of older people to exercise more often."
