Sydney wins big as Tim Tszyu fight moved from Queensland

And the winner is... Sydney.

The NSW capital has capitalised on Queensland's tough quarantine rules and won the hosting rights for Tim Tszyu's blockbuster fight against Takeshi Inoue next month.

On Tuesday it was revealed fight promoters, No Limit Boxing, had been forced to move the event from Gold Coast Convention Centre as a result of the sunshine state government's COVID-19 rules.

On Thursday, Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney was announced as the new venue to host the November 17 bout.

Qudos will be given the green light for a 75 per cent crowd capacity, meaning 10,000 tickets will go on sale to watch Australia's boxing golden boy fight the Japanese champion.

Inoue will fly from Japan to Sydney later this month in preparation for the fight.

"We are delighted to be able to return to Sydney for not only one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year but one of the most significant," No Limit Boxing CEO George Rose said.

"Sydney is back in business, and we are delighted to bring Tim home for what is shaping up as his toughest test to date.

"It also gives No Limit Boxing an opportunity to say thanks to the frontline workers who have opened up our state once again. I will be providing NSW Health with an allocation of 1000 tickets to provide to the men and women who have led the charge for our state."

For Tszyu, the switch means he will fight in front of his "home" crowd in western Sydney.

"I'm delighted to be able to have this fight in front of my family, friends and all my fans back home in Sydney," Tszyu said. 

"I know people have been getting jabs in their arms over the last few months here but come November 17 I'm going to give Inoue jabs to his body, arms and face."
