Russian hockey player shows javelin skills
Call it either a very late audition for Rio or an early audition for the NHL.
Russian hockey outfit Ak Bars Kazan put on a pre-season event as a thank-you to their loyal fans but it’s fair to say they got more than they bargained for with this trick shot.
Vladimir Tkachyov showed that hockey may not be his only forte during a breakaway challenge. The meticulous concentration he displays on the ice could lead viewers to think he is something of a novice, but it soon becomes apparent he has other things in mind.
As he builds in speed Tkachyov then scoops the puck onto his stick in a swift move before hoisting it over his shoulder and launching it towards the bewildered goalkeeper. Unsurprisingly, despite the goalie’s best efforts it finds the back of the net.
As if you didn’t already know, the Russian athletics team is banned from the Games but come Tokyo in 2020 perhaps they could do worse than call Tkachyov’s people if the javelin ranks are looking a tad thin.
