Biathlon: Russian TV pundit hits right note after anthem mix-up

A Russian TV commentator rushed to the rescue to sing the right national anthem when organisers played the wrong tune during a medals ceremony at the world championships on Saturday.

The incident follows an embarrassing mix up at a Fed Cup tennis match between the US and Germany in Hawaii last week where a soloist sang an old version of the German anthem that begins "Deutschland, Deutschland ueber alles" -- a reference to German supremacy.

At Saturday's event Russian biathlon commentator Dimitri Guberniev leapt into action to join the gold medal-winning Russian men's relay team on the podium as an anthem used between 1990-2000 was mistakenly played instead of the current version, which he and the quartet duly sang.

The organisers were also swift to apologise and quick to find the right tune, which they eventually played.

The Russian quartet beat arch-rivals France in the relay with hosts Austria taking bronze.
