Belmonte takes out fourth bowling Masters
Australia's two-handed tenpin ace Jason Belmonte has become the first bowler to win the United States Bowling Congress Masters four times.
The 33-year-old took out the 2017 edition of the major in Las Vegas on Sunday (Monday AEDT), eclipsing local hope Michael Tang in the final 279-212 thanks to seven consecutive strikes.
The world No.3 adds this year's title to his Masters three-peat in 2013-15.
The victory takes him to eight majors titles, equal with Professional Bowlers Association hall of famers Mike Aulby and Walter Ray Williams Jr.
"I love this tournament and think it really brings out the best in me," Belmonte said.
"To have my name etched on this trophy four times and be the only person to do that is unbelievable. It doesn't seem real."
Leading up to the final, he bowled at an average of almost 240 in three games.
It has been strong return to form by Belmonte, who's considered a trailblazer in the sport because of his peculiar two-handed bowling style.
He had not won a major since his third-straight Masters title in 2015, but took out Players Championship event in Colombus, Ohio, earlier this month.
