A 'small' basketball player has soared over the top of his taller rivals to win the D-League Dunk Contest in Canada.

John Jordan, a 178cm guard playing for the Raptors 905, the affiliate of NBA franchise the Toronto Raptors, scored perfect scores to upset the competition and take home the title.

Labelled a dark horse before the start of the contest, Jordan showed off all his athleticism and style to slam home four spectacular jams – the highlight a whirlwind dunk off an assist from a teammate.

However, Jordan's win shouldn't come as a major surprise with the Raptor boasting a 127cm vertical leap.

Remarkably, Jordan is far from the shortest man to pull off the sport’s most spectacular finish.

NBA history is awash with small men flying above the rim, no better than the Atlanta Hawks' former 170cm maestro, Jerome 'Spud' Webb.
