NBL Breakers sweat on Webster ankle

The New Zealand Breakers will be sweating on star guard Corey Webster's ankle X-rays but coach Dan Shamir admits it "doesn't look good".

Webster landed horribly on his left ankle early in the second quarter of the Breakers' 117-100 loss to the Adelaide 36ers on Sunday and had to be assisted off the court.

Before the injury Webster was unstoppable, rifling 14 points at 71 per cent, including 4-of-5 three-pointers in the opening quarter.

But as soon as he exited, so did NZ's hopes of snapping their four-game losing streak.

"He (Webster) is in hospital right now getting that examined," Shamir said.

"Obviously it doesn't look good but we'll wait for the results before we give information."

Losing their best player would be a bitter pill for the Breakers who can't catch a break this season.

They are already missing Robert Loe (fractured skull), import swingman Scotty Hopson (knee) and Hopson's replacement Glen Rice Jnr (who lasted two games before being suspended indefinitely after being arrested following a bar incident).

"I don't like to focus on injuries but it's been a big factor for how our season is developing," Shamir said.

"We've suffered a few already.

"I hope it (Webster injury) is not a big deal and we'll deal with whatever happens."

Captain Tom Abercrombie says the Breakers have to just chip away to escape their current rut.

"It seems like some new bit of adversity hits us each week and those little hits just keep chipping away and getting bigger," he said.

"We're fighting to stay together right now and keep battling.

"From day one I've seen how much talent this group has got.

"We haven't been able to put it together yet because we haven't had all the talent available.

"Hopefully we can get some pieces back and start chipping away at this thing."
