Cleveland Cavaliers' Matthew Dellavedova may be the name on everyone's lips but don't try asking the NBA franchise's fans how to spell the Australian's name.

Dellavedova has been a revelation in the post-season of this season, taking on cult hero status in the Finals series against the Golden State Warriors after injury ruled out starting point guard, fellow Australian-born Kyrie Irving.

But the 24-year-old's heroics have done little to make Cavs fans take notice to the spelling on the back of his jersey.

In a hilarious segment filmed for NBA TV's The Starters, presenter Leigh Ellis took to the streets of Cleveland, asking random fans to spell the Aussie's name.

And while many immediately backed themselves, few could pass the test, with some even falling apart trying to spell 'Matthew'.

However, the funniest moments of the video was when one man gave up trying to spell 'Dellavedova' and reverted to his popular nickname, shouting out "Delly, Delly", before grabbing Ellis and telling him: "My wife's a school teacher she's going to kill me."

Dellavedova will again be in the thick of the action when the Cavs travel to face the Warriors in game five on Monday with the series locked at 2-2 games.
