Badminton players swap racquets mid-rally

Trick shots are always popular in sport and a pair of badminton players has left fans cheering in delight after swapping racquets mid-point during the South East Asia Games.

Malaysians Chan Peng and Goh Liu Ying were trading blows with Singapore's Vanessa Neo and Danny Bawa Chrisnanta when the cheeky switch occurred.

The Singaporeans lobbed the shuttlecock over the net when Peng flashed over to Ying to initiate the swap, with the pair then continuing the rally seamlessly to eventually win the point.

The sleight of hand drew gasps of delight and applause from spectators with the Malaysians going on to win the match 21-18, 21-16.

And while the switch had an air of show pony-ism, there were suggestions after the game that Peng had instigated the play to overcome string problems with his racquet.

Either way it was a nifty piece of skill and reportedly the first time it has ever been done in major competition.
