Badminton player wins point with ‘tweener’ shot

A badminton player took a leaf out of the tennis trick book to win a point with brilliant between the legs shot during the US Open Championship.

Playing in the New York event final against Malaysian favourite Lee Chong Wei, Danish contender Hans-Kristian Vittinghus channeled tennis great Roger Federer to produce a stunning winner during the first set.

The pair was engaged in a long rally when Vittinghus was forced into the back court to chase down a lob on set point.

Barely able to reach the shuttlecock, the Dane lunged and fired off a shot between his legs, which amazingly sailed over the top of Lee and landed just inside the back line for a jaw-dropping winner.

Unfortunately for Vittinghus, it wasn't enough to save the set, which he lost after the next two points, before going down 22-20, 21-12.

The win was particularly satisfying for two time Olympic silver medalist Lee, who claimed his first title since returning from an eight month doping ban.

The trick shot comes after two Malaysian players produced a stunning mid-rally racquet switch during the recent South East Asia Games.
