1. NETBALL: 2010 Commonwealth Games Final - New Zealand 66 bt Australia 64

After 84 minutes of pulsating netball, New Zealand finally claimed gold over Australia at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. The Diamonds led by five in the first half and the Silver Ferns by seven in the final quarter, but scores were somehow level at 47 at fulltime. Fourteen minutes of extra-time still couldn't separate the teams, meaning either team required a lead of two in added overtime. Ten minutes later New Zealand eventually sealed it, with a 66-64 thriller.

2. RUGBY UNION: 2000 Bledisloe Cup, Game Two - Australia 24 bt New Zealand 23

Requiring a win to retain the Cup after a thrilling loss in Sydney, the Wallabies let a 12-0 lead slip to trail by two in injury time. First, they had to fend out an All Blacks attacking raid on their own line before clearing it down field and overturning a New Zealand lineout. Eventually, they earned a penalty near the sideline, leaving replacement kicker John Eales to kick the winning penalty goal on full-time.

3. CRICKET: 2011-12 Second Test - New Zealand bt Australia by seven runs

Who said you needed runs to make a great cricket match? New Zealand seemed certain to go down two-nil to the Aussies when they were bundled out for 150 in the first innings. On a green Hobart deck though, they held the home side to 136 in their first dig and managed to set a total of 241 for victory. David Warner (123 not out) held resolute batting through, but a 34-run final wicket partnership with Nathan Lyon wasn't enough to stop Doug Bracewell (6-40) and the Kiwis from claiming a seven-run victory.

4. RUGBY LEAGUE: 2006 Tri-Nations final - Australia 16 bt New Zealand 12

Willie Mason was never likely to be a playmaking hero, but when he busted the line and kicked-ahead on the siren, it appeared he had won the 2006 Tri-Nations for Australia. Alas, Greg Inglis was judged to have knocked the ball on over the line and it was sent to golden point at 12-apiece. Darren Lockyer and Stacy Jones both missed match-winning field goals, before a Johnathan Thurston dummy on his own 30-metre line broke the Kiwis wide open, allowing Lockyer to score.

5. CRICKET: 2001-02 Triangular ODI Series, Game 10 - Australia bt New Zealand by two wickets

Australia were on the verge of a humiliating defeat in a must-win match midway through their chase at the MCG. Sitting at 6-82 in the 22nd over, the Blackcaps' 245 looked a long way away. Enter Michael Bevan. In a typically stout display, the master finisher timed the chase to perfection, hitting an unbeaten 102 as Australia got the runs in the final over. The win wasn't enough to book them a finals spot when South Africa beat the Kiwis two days later, but it made for a thrilling contest.
