Aussie involved in US women's relay crash

Australian runner Zoe Buckman was floored in a mid-race collision that cost the US women a shot at gold in the 4x1500m event at the IAAF World Relays in The Bahamas.

As this video shows, Buckman had just completed the first leg of the relay when American Katie Mackey ploughed into the back of her after receiving the baton from teammate Heather Kampf at the inaugural event at Nassau, the Bahamian capital, at the weekend.

The collision left both runners sprawled on the track before Mackey jumped to her feet and recovered, with the Americans rallying to finish 22 seconds behind Kenya for the silver medal.

The Kenyans improved the world record by more than half a minute to 16:33.58, while the Australians claimed the bronze, finishing in 17:08.65, just outside a national record.

Neither Buckman or Mackey was hurt.
