Cocky amateur lands KO of the year
English MMA fighter Sheldon Reid has thrown his hat in the ring for knockout of the year after flooring his rival with a brutal head kick during an amateur bout in the UK.
Taking on bantamweight compatriot Julio Calcina, the pair were going toe-to-toe in the first round when the referee stepped in to separate the pair after Reid copped a low blow close to the fence.
The referee allowed Reid a short time to recompose before re-starting the bout when the 58th ranked fighter unleashed a perfect front kick to Calcina's forehead.
It was lights out in an instant for Calcina who dropped face first onto the canvas, but not before copping a punch as he dropped.
Reid then pounced on his prone victim, landing several more blows before the bout was stopped.
The knockout earned the Englishman a $1900 bonus and while he was justifiably delighted with his effort, his cocky tongue poking gesture after being declared victor was somewhat questionable.
Either way the perfect front kick took Reid's amateur record to 3-0 and could see him offered a professional contract, not to mention a place among the year's best knockouts.
