Premiership player Stengle to part ways with Geelong
Tyson Stengle and the Geelong Cats have mutually agreed to part ways, with the agreement finalised on Friday.
The 27-year-old still had three years left on a $700,000 per season, five-year extension he signed in 2024, which has now been settled by Geelong, the AFLPA and Stengle’s management.

Stengle played 93 games for the Cats and earned an All-Australian honour in his debut season with Geelong in 2022.
“Thank you so much to the Geelong footy club. In particular, to my teammates, the coaching staff, the support staff and most importantly to the fans,” Stengle said of his exit.
“Your unwavering and loyal support through the great times and the tough times has meant more to me than you will ever know. I am deeply grateful, and look forward to supporting the club as a fan.”
Stengle was a key player in the club’s AFL premiership team in 2022 and played his last game for the Cats in their grand final loss in 2025 to Brisbane.
The forward only played one VFL game in the 2026 season amid off-field issues.
“We would like to congratulate Tyson on what he has achieved over his career, including his time at Geelong,” Andrew Mackie, executive general manager football, said.
“Tyson has shown tremendous resilience during his time at Geelong, and we believe now is the right time for both Tyson and the club to move forward.
“We thank Tyson for his contribution to the Cats and celebrate what he has achieved in his football career.”
