Steven’s ankle got caught up with Melbourne midfielder Jake Melksham late in the third quarter and was helped off by the trainers.

The three-time Trevor Barker Award winner was unable to put any weight on his injured left foot and was ruled out for the remainder of the game with a rolled ankle.

St Kilda is scheduled to host the Brisbane Lions at Etihad Stadium on March 24 and Steven will have a race against time to line up for the season-opener.

The 154-game veteran was one of the Saints’ leading lights in 2017, averaging 26.3 disposals per game in 20 appearances for St Kilda.
