Hawk suspension for Neale bump would be ‘absolute joke’

Nic Negrepontis

Brisbane legend Jonathan Brown believes Hawthorn midfielder Jai Newcombe should NOT be suspended for his bump on Lachie Neale in the opening seconds of the game.

Neale was rocked and sore, but is playing out the game and did not undergo a concussion test.

Upon watching the replay, it is clear the Brisbane star is pushed into the contact from behind, meaning Newcombe did not initiate the bump.

If Hawthorn wins, a suspension would rule the Hawthorn captain out of the grand final.

“If he gets suspended for that, it’s an absolute joke. Neale was pushed into the contact. There was nothing Newcombe could do about that,” Brown told Fox Footy.

Who wins it from here?

Nic Negrepontis

Points to Hawthorn in the first half, they deserve their 14-point lead and have looked the better team, but this is a high scoring affair that can change in the blink of an eye.

We saw one shocking comeback last night, could we see a second here?

Brisbane has pulled off huge comebacks in finals before and they know how to win on the big stage.

This is going to go down to the wire, you would think.

It was starting to look a little lopsided, but those two late goals gave Brisbane the life they needed. It all started with the Lohmann free kick, followed by some Charlie cameron magic.

But right on the half time siren, Nick Watson has snapped a brilliant goal to give Hawthorn back the ascendancy.

One of the best players in the game. What an incredible player.

Hawks lead 67-53 at the break.

Hawthorn leads 61-39 here at the MCG. They’ve kicked five of the last six goals and just look the better team.

They’re killing Brisbane off half back and scoring from stoppage as well. They’re a threat to blow the game open here.
