‘Done a number on myself’: Scans reveal horror Fevola injuries
Brendan Fevola has revealed he unwittingly entered last week’s AFL Legend’s Game with a torn PCL, and has done significantly more damage to his knee because of it.
That injury was separate to the one that ended his night in the first quarter, where the 45-year-old hurt his other leg in a marking contest and needed to be helped from the field.

Early in the first quarter between Victoria and the All Stars, Fevola ran on to a kick inside 50 from Gary Ablett and took a mark on the ground.
His Fox FM radio partner Nick Cody then fell over on top of him, leaving Fevola in agony and holding his leg.
Fevola had only just had an operation on his right knee five weeks prior and had to shuffle himself off the playing surface at Marvel Stadium, this time holding his left leg.
The Carlton legend then went down to the change rooms with the assistance of medical staff in significant pain.
The right knee was not in tip-top shape despite the surgery, with Fevola revealing he has significant damage in it and might need to go under the knife again.
It is separate to the quad ligament tear he suffered on the other leg.
“The doctor who did the scans called me up and said ‘hey, everything’s good, you’ve done a good job, there might be a ligament tear or something, but you’re going to be fine’ and I’m like all right!” Fevola told The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick on Monday morning.
“Maybe I could’ve kicked that goal, but I couldn’t get up and I couldn’t move my leg and I’m like that (diagnosis) does not sound right, but the doc has looked at the scans, so it must be right.
“And then I spoke to the Richmond doc on the Saturday because I wanted some pain meds, I went through all of this without pain meds … and I had to give him all the information to get the scripts and he takes a look for me and he goes ‘oh, jeez, mate’.
“I can see you’ve got a torn MCL, torn meniscus, a tear in your PCL and your kneecap is shattered and I’m like ‘well that explains it’.
“With the PCL, the doctor goes ‘looks like that tear has been there for a little bit’. That was already there. My courage going out there with a torn PCL.
“I’ve done a number on myself. I got a pizza with the lot. I’m going to be out for six to 12 weeks. Might need to see the surgeon this week.”
Fevola kicked a goal early in the game, donning sunglasses as he did so, before getting injured.
Speaking the morning after the Legend’s Game, the AFL champion detailed the aftermath of the incident that ended his night.

“Obviously last night was a disaster,” Fevola said at the time.
“Obviously, I didn’t see Nick because he was behind me because I was that quick.
“I felt a pop and I thought ‘uh oh’ and I don’t think I’ve ever played a footy game where I’ve marked the ball and had to give away a shot at goal. That’s when I knew I was in trouble. I was like ‘I can’t kick this. I don’t think I can get up’.
“I can’t really remember (what happened) because I was in a bit of shock and it swelled up pretty quick.
“I bum crawled my way to the boundary line like a man who had lost all his dignity. I couldn’t move my quad. I couldn’t feel my quad. I was like ‘I can’t move’.”
Fevola reassured his radio partner that the injury was not his fault, after Cody revealed he was “so flat” all night.
“It’s just footy, man. It’s footy and that’s what happens and it’s just unlucky,” the Blues champion said.
Fevola’s daughter Lulu after the game posted an update on Instagram, showing the former AFL forward on a massage table with strapping on his knee, saying “I have a fat leg”, as Lulu explained it was caused by swelling.
