‘Don’t blame him’: Clarkson dumps Roos gear at local Vinnies

Alastair Clarkson is quickly moving on from his time at North Melbourne, donating a heap of his club gear to a local St Vincent’s de Paul op-shop.

The four-time premiership winner was sacked by the Kangaroos last week, despite having a year to run on his coaching contract.

Clarkson was hopeful of remaining at North and overseeing further improvement, but club bosses opted to move in a new direction for 2027.

Images were shared on social media on Monday, showing a stack of merchandise and training apparel on the racks at a local Vinnies in Melbourne.

One of the items – an Indigenous design jersey – even had Clarkson’s name on it.

“Just days after North Melbourne offloaded Alastair Clarkson, he appears to be doing some offloading of his own at Hampton Vinnies,” 9News Melbourne reporter Jack Ward said on Monday afternoon.

“The dumped coach has dropped off a haul of his Kangaroos gear and merchandise, donated in the wake of his sudden departure last week.

“Training jumpers, warm-up tops and long-sleeve polos were among the items delivered personally by him yesterday afternoon, plus a guernsey with Clarkson’s name printed on the back.

“You don’t need to rush down – the collection isn’t on the shop floor yet. Vinnies still have to sort and price every item before deciding what to do with them.”

One shopper at Vinnies admitted it wasn’t a surprise for Clarkson to dump his gear, given the way his exit from North Melbourne was handled.

“I can’t entirely blame him,” she said.

Another passer-by said it was good to see Clarkson giving back to the community.

Vinnies said they were “grateful” for any donations given, but have yet to decide how much Clarkson’s gear will sell for at the store.

The 58-year-old spent four seasons with the Roos, winning just 20 games.
