Adelaide forward banned for gut punch, teammate fined for diving after narrow loss to Hawthorn

Adelaide key forward Riley Thilthorpe has been slapped with a one-game ban for striking and teammate Josh Rachele has been fined for diving.

Thilthorpe whacked Hawthorn big man Lloyd Meek in the gut during the fourth quarter of Thursday night's game in Launceston, which the Hawks won by nine points.

Match review officer Michael Christian deemed the strike to be intentional and of medium impact.

Thilthorpe can accept a one-match ban with an early guilty plea or the Crows can challenge the ruling, which they have until Monday morning to do.

Rachele was offered a $1500 fine for staging during the second quarter, which can be reduced to $1000 with an early guilty plea.

After receiving a holding-the-man free kick and falling to ground, the 23-year-old was shoved by a couple of Hawthorn players as he picked himself up.

He seemingly exaggerated the impact of the shoves, which Richmond champion Jack Riewoldt and North Melbourne great David King picked up on during the Fox Footy coverage.

"That is a dive," Riewoldt said.

"He's got to be a bit smarter than that," King added.

"He's playing good footy. There's no need."

Adelaide will have a bye next week and then take on Geelong at Adelaide Oval in the opening game of round 13.

The Crows will all but certainly be without gun midfielder Izak Rankine for the Cats clash after he suffered a suspected calf injury on Thursday night.

The Hawks won the game 10.15 (75) to 9.12 (66).

Adelaide remain in eighth on the ladder after the loss in Tasmania.
