Scott Pendlebury has career day as Collingwood thrash Essendon in Anzac Day humiliation

Collingwood was thrashed Essendon in an Anzac Day annihilation, with Bombers great Matthew Lloyd frustrated with what he has seen from his old side.

Pies star Scott Pendlebury took home the Anzac Day medal for best afield in a remarkable performance by the 38-year-old, who finished with a career-high 43 disposals, 19 score involvements, two goals, two goal assists, 10 marks and six inside 50s.

He has now won a record four medals. His first was 16 years ago. He previously shared the medal record with Essendon legend James Hird, who has three.

Collingwood feasted in the last quarter, demolishing the Bombers across the second half with 15 goals 11 behinds to five in the 20.17. (137) to 8.6. (54) win.

The 77-point margin is the largest in the history of the Anzac Day clash, surpassing 2008's result by four points.

The final term turned into a party for the Pies, who did as they pleased, and a horror show for Essendon fans.

Jordan De Goey, Dan McStay, Angus Anderson, Jamie Elliott, Beau McCreey, Roan Steele and Pendlebury all kicked multiple goals for the Pies amongst 12 different goal kickers.

When asked if this performance undid Essendon's admirable last fortnight, Lloyd said "absolutely".

"What is Essendon's game-plan? They have chopped and changed all year. They beat Melbourne with chipping the ball around, they went faster against Gold Coast. Today, they went fast in the first half and retreated in the second half," he continued.

"I don't think they have a defined plan, despite their effort improving in the last few weeks, but that's a given, you should expect that from every side that runs out to play footy."

Lloyd was unimpressed by a number of Essendon veterans and their efforts on Saturday afternoon.

"You look at Darcy Parish, no impact in the midfield, Andrew McGrath has moments but isn't an A-grade midfielder, Zach Merrett was quiet today, particularly after half-time," he said.

"Down back you think of Harris Andrews and Josh Battle and these defenders who intercept and hurt you, Ben McKay doesn't do that. He's getting paid $1m but he's nervous with his footy, he's nervous below his knees.

"He doesn't help you. He doesn't assist you in anything with winning the ball. Collingwood had 62 entries, so he was under threat massively today."

Josh and Nick Daicos also had field days, combining for a ridiculous 77 disposals in the win.

For Essendon, Archie Roberts amassed 42 disposals in defence, while young key forward Nate Caddy booted three goals.

Coming off that record performance, Pendlebury will equal the all-time V/AFL games played record on Thursday night against Hawthorn, joining North Melbourne champion Brent Harvey on 432.
