West Coast forward Tyler Brockman will likely face the MRO after a jumper punch went wrong during his side's clash with Richmond.

The incident occurred off the ball during the first term, with Brockman and Tiger Luke Trainor scuffling.

However, the 22-year-old floored the first-year Richmond defender with a blow that seemingly caught Trainor on the chin.

A grading of careless, medium and high would see Brockman slapped with a one-game ban by MRO Michael Christian, however an intentional grading would see him miss two.

Hawthorn champion Dermott Brereton believes the young Eagle may escape a significant ban given a nearby umpire saw the incident and took no action.

"You've just got to be really careful," Brereton said on Fox Footy.

"It's a bit of a jumper punch. The umpire was 15 metres away looking at it and he took no punitive action whatsoever."

Brockman looked back at the floored Trainor after the incident, signalling for him to get back up, while Richmond veteran Nick Vlastuin stepped in to move the Eagle away.

The forward has played 41 career games, 15 at West Coast, after starting his career at the Hawks.
