West Coast co-captain Oscar Allen has expressed his remorse following his meeting with Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell and the backlash that followed.

The out of contract skipper is weighing up his future, with the Hawks and Lions amongst the teams keen on poaching him.

Speaking at club training on Thursday, Allen admitted it was an embarrassing situation.

"First and foremost I want to address my sincere apology and serious embarrassment for what's happened over the last few days," Allen said.

"Clearly the public nature and the timing of what has come out isn't in the best interest of myself and the football club.

"For me, I mostly feel remorseful towards our fans, our players, staff, I can imagine how you're feeling and for that I am incredibly remorseful.

"I'm going to continue my role as co-captain alongside Liam Duggan this season. In conversations with people at the footy club, everyone feels like it's the right thing to do.

"I'm still confident I am the man to take this group forward alongside Duggan to take this club forward and achieving some success this year."

Allen was directly asked if he wanted to remain a West Coast player beyond 2025.

"Yeah, I do," he said.

"I'm not going to get into specifics. I do love this club and am looking forward to playing the rest of this season."

The 26-year-old admitted to being out of form, after a quiet start to the season.

"I think it's fair to say I'm out of form at the moment, along with others in the side at the moment," he said.

"My main goal is to lead by example and I haven't been doing that, so this week and going forward, that's my main focus."

The Eagles have the enormous task of heading to Engie Stadium to face GWS in round four, hoping to pick up their first win of the season.
