Matthew Lloyd's tough call on Harley Reid if Eagles 'have any inkling' future star isn't committed long-term

Matthew Lloyd believes West Coast should consider moving on from number one draft pick Harley Reid this off-season, if they believe he is not fully committed long-term.

Reid is contracted to the Eagles until the end of 2026, but could command upwards of $2 million a season to return home to a Victorian side.

Lloyd feels West Coast may need to make the tough call and cash Reid in for an enormous trade haul.

"I just want to say, I hope he plays for West Coast for 10 years. People will try and link this comment and say maybe I want him in the red and the black, I couldn't care less. I want him to play for West Coast," Lloyd told Nine's Footy Classified.

"In terms of his performance, I just feel like if they have any inkling that he doesn't want to be there, or they feel that he will just see out his contract at the end of next year and then he'll look to leave, I just think with where they're at 0-8 as a club, it's not as if he's helping their performance that much anyway, that you look to do what's best for your football club and can you get three players for one."

Lloyd doesn't believe Reid has put his best foot forward so far in 2025 at the Eagles.

"I think he came back (this pre-season) unfit," Lloyd added.

"It's not as if you're building your club around somebody, at this stage, who is the ultimate professional.

"It's tough, he's in a poor side, as a second-year player, but he's a 16 disposal per game player currently."

West Coast has a great chance to break their winless start to the season, when they face Richmond at the MCG in round nine.
