Would GWS captain Toby Greene ever step foot in a UFC octagon? Well, he certainly wouldn't against Aussie legend Alexander Volkanovski.

With tongue firmly in cheek, the current UFC featherweight champion issued the challenge to Greene on this week's edition of Players.

Volkanovski reclaimed the title in April, defeating Brazil's Diego Lopes at UFC 314 via unanimous decision, following a 14-month break from the sport.

"We're in a bit of a situation here where it's hard to get a match-up in the featherweight division, so I'm looking for an opponent, and I've found someone," Volkanovski said.

"We've got this tough guy Toby Greene who thinks he's up for the challenge. I want to challenge you Toby Greene to a UFC fight.

"I'm a Swans guy anyway!"

Greene has had his fair share of scraps across his AFL career, having been suspended for 15 total AFL games, and fined $35,600, as of 2024.

However, the 181cm, 77kg Giants skipper can't quite see himself taking up the challenge, even if he's happy to play along with it.

"Oh he's too small mate, he weighs in at 65kg," Greene laughed.

"I'd love to back myself.

"Nah, UFC is not for me. I love watching it and the boxing, but I'm not fighting him, nup.

"I respect what they do. It's brutal. He's a legend of his sport, so I won't be fighting him."

Greene and his Giants are preparing to take on Geelong at GMHBA Stadium this weekend and will be hoping to bounce back from round eight's loss to rivals Sydney.
