Geelong's re-signing spree continues as premiership winner commits for two more years

Premiership winner Sam De Koning has committed to Geelong for two more years as the Cats look to return to being a side playing grand finals.

De Koning's extension ties him to the club until the end of 2027, having played 65 matches for the club already after he was drafted in 2019 at pick 19.

The ruckman/defender last re-signed with Geelong in 2022, which tied him to the club until this year.

"I'm excited to commit for at least the next two years. Geelong has become home for me, and I absolutely love everything the club and region offers," he said in a club statement.

"Since being drafted, I've been lucky enough to play with some great players and enjoy team success, and the group we are building now has a bright future ahead, and I'm excited to be part of it."

De Koning's first AFL goal came in the 2022 grand final, a year where he finished second in the Rising Star voting to Nick Daicos.

The 24-year-old's extension makes him the fifth player to sign on with the Cats recently after Brad Close, Jeremy Cameron, Ollie Henry, Shannon Neale and Toby Conway all agreed to stay.

Geelong Cats executive general manager of football, Andrew Mackie, was delighted to have another player extend.

"Sam is a quality person and player, and we are really pleased he has re-signed with us," he said.

"We look forward to seeing Sam continue to develop as a footballer and flourish alongside our core group of young, emerging players."

While De Koning has signed on with the Cats, speculation remains around his brother Tom at Carlton after reports St Kilda will offer him a $1.7m-a-season deal.
