Patrick Voss has emerged as one of the more interesting players in the AFL - not only because of his boisterous nature, but because he is backing it up on the field.

The key forward ultimately proved the difference during Fremantle's narrow win over Port Adelaide on Saturday night, kicking two late goals among other key moments.

He certainly left an impression on the Adelaide Oval crowd, shushing and waving them goodbye after his second goal with nine minutes left in the final term.

Port Adelaide hit the lead after this point thanks to a Connor Rozee goal, before Alex Pearce kicked the winner at the death, saving Voss from an awkward situation.

Fremantle teammate Caleb Serong had a laugh about the 22-year-old's antics after the game, but suggested he maybe saves the wave for after the result is sealed.

"I told him I thought he cursed us after the game," Serong told Fox Footy.

"I don't know about the wave, (there were) still a few minutes left and we're only up a point, so I think he can put that one away.

"But his energy, I love it, I want him to keep bringing it."

Pearce was similarly jovial about Voss' demeanour, loving what he has brought to the football club.

"Hopefully we can just escort him into the bus and hotel without the Port fans getting into him," the skipper joked after the match.

"He's good for footy, he's a bloke that you love playing with. He brings so much passion and energy and he's good for the game.

"He brings a lot of excitement and passion to the fans in the crowd. He's probably a bit like (Hayden) Ballantyne to be honest ... most people that don't go for Freo want to punch him, but we all want to kiss him."

Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir was full of praise for Voss, but said he needs to continue to "tread the line" with his aggression.

"I love it, in the right doses," Longmuir said.

"He's got to be careful he doesn't let his aggression tip over and turn into frees against. Tread the line of being dangerous with some of his physicality ... we need that.

"It's a part of coming on the road, standing up to the crowd and standing up to the opposition and give it back.

"He's finding the balance really well at the moment. His last four or five weeks, everyone measures goals, but he's doing a lot outside of that for the team.

"He gives us a lot of energy, I love what he's been doing."

Fremantle threw Voss a lifeline after he was delisted by Essendon and he has blossomed into a key part of their finals run.

He's kicked 15 goals across the last month in four Docker wins, keeping their finals hopes alive.

Former Western Bulldogs star Nathan Brown was impressed with his ability to stand up in the big moments against the Power.

"I love it when good players influence games. Patrick Voss, we talk and laugh about him a lot ... he got them going in the last quarter," Brown told Nine's Sunday Footy Show.

"He stood up and did his job."
