Brisbane Lions captain Lachie Neale rubbed out of finals series with torn calf

Brisbane will be without captain Lachie Neale for the remainder of the finals series, after scans confirmed the extent of the injury suffered against Geelong.

The dual Brownlow Medallist had only just returned from a quad strain and will now be sidelined again, with the club confirming he would miss six weeks with a calf tear.

Neale's visible frustration coming from the field and on the bench told the whole story.

His teammates are now preparing for a semi final clash with either Fremantle or Gold Coast, and coach Chris Fagan expects that they will be without Neale.

Brisbane had to play four games to win the premiership last year and now must do so again, but without Neale it will be an enormous task.

Fagan was coy on their hopes of bouncing back without their superstar midfielder.

"God I haven't even thought about that," he said.

"I haven't even thought about next week. I'll probably stay neutral on (whether we can win the flag). He's a pretty good player … we'll continue to play with spirit and go at the game and try and deliver a better performance.

"I don't see why we can't bounce back. We've done it before. They're hard things to win, premierships. We're not even talking about that. We'll knuckle down and hopefully give a better performance than we did tonight.

"Geelong were incredible and I hope you give them credit."

Brisbane great Jonathan Brown feels Fagan's answer to whether they can win the flag without Neale told the real story.

"Normally he'd bristle at that question about winning the flag without Lachie Neale, but even he was very circumspect about it all. I don't mind the approach of not even talking about a premiership and just worrying about next week," Brown told Fox Footy.
