The AFL's first openly bisexual man, Mitch Brown, has taken aim at Bailey Smith after his Mad Monday antics, claiming a social media post was "homophobic".

Smith made a reference to the movie Brokeback Mountain on his Instagram story, which irked Brown.

The Geelong Cats superstar posted on his first story with a picture of him with teammate Brad Close, with Smith dressed as Brad Pitt's character in Legends Of The Fall. Close was dressed as Catman.

Smith's second story was a photo of him with Patrick Dangerfield.

"Or Brokeback Mountain, depends how ya look at it ... this is what losing a granny does to ya. Alright phone away now, bye."

Brown then posted to his story a picture of late Aussie actor Heath Ledger, who played a lead role in Brokeback Mountain.

He captioned it "just for the record Heath Ledger's way hotter" before hitting out at Smith.

"In all seriousness though, guys do better," he wrote.

"Last time I checked, losing a grand final doesn't make you gay, but being homophobic definitely makes you a loser."

In August, Brown came out as bisexual via The Daily Aus.

He had played 94 games with the West Coast Eagles before his career ended in 2016.

Smith has not responded to Brown's post.
