Adelaide Crow Mark Keane has emerged as a rising star following his match-winning heroics against Carlton on the weekend.

A spectacular mark by the Irish defender during the upset win over the Blues has earned him the nickname "Leo Barry" among teammates, amid comparisons to the legendary Swan's match-saving mark in the 2005 grand final.

"Reilly O'Brien was calling me Leo Barry as well, but I was not too sure who Leo Barry was at the time," Keane said.

While the nickname may be somewhat tongue-in-cheek, both the mark and Sam Berry's winning goal have helped the Crows rediscover their confidence after a tough start to the season.

"It was just a sigh of relief, a lot of weight off the shoulders," Keane said.

News on Ben Keays has further boosted the team as it prepares to face Essendon on Friday night, the Vice Captain signing a three-season contract extension until the end of 2027.

The Crows sit in 14th on the ladder with a 1-4 record.
