Discarded Gold Coast AFL ruckman Daniel Gorringe has been thrown a lifeline by Carlton.

The Blues have signed the 23-year-old Gorringe as a delisted free agent to add depth to a ruck division also featuring Matthew Kreuzer, Cameron Wood and fellow recruit Andrew Phillips.

The 200cm Gorringe spent five years with the Suns and has played 22 senior games.

"To bring in another young talent who is eager and hungry for more senior opportunities only strengthens our playing list," said Carlton's general manager of list management and strategy Stephen Silvagni said.

"Daniel has an excellent leap and the ability to move around the ground is a mark of his athleticism.

"The fact he's already had five years of AFL-system experience is a real bonus."

The Blues were very busy during the recent trade period, signing Lachie Plowman, Jed Lamb, Liam Sumner and Phillips from Greater Western Sydney and Sam Kerridge from Adelaide.
