Legendary commentator Dennis Cometti to call final AFL game

Legendary sports commentator Dennis Cometti has announced he will call his final game this week and hang up the microphone after the AFL grand final.

Cometti, 72, will call the premiership decider between Western Bulldogs and Melbourne Demons for Triple M Perth radio station.

"This is it," Dennis told Triple M's Basil, Xav & Jenna show on Monday.

"It's finished… there's no turning back. There is emotion attached.

"After it's finished and you're walking out the door, you'll think 'well, it's been good', you know. If it's a good game, all the better."

Cometti played and coached Australian football before transitioning into the caller's box, where he has been for more than four decades.

His voice became synonymous with AFL commentary, alongside fellow sports broadcasting icon Bruce McAvaney.

In the 2019 Australia Day honours Cometti was inducted into the Order of Australia (OAM), and later this month he will be inducted into the WA Football Hall of Fame.

Cometti is also a member of the Sports Australia Hall of Fame and a member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
