AFL Trade Period: Day 1 wrap

After a frenetic day we have a number of deals and prospects on the table: 

• First and foremost, Tom Lynch is officially a Tiger. The Gold Coast Suns officially elected not to match Richmond's offer for the restricted free agent, meaning that the big man is officially calling Richmond home.

• The Tigers traded Anthony Miles, Corey Ellis and a 2019 3rd round pick to the Suns in exchange for the Suns' own 2019 3rd round pick.

• Geelong's Lincoln McCarthy will be heading to the Lions along with pick 54 and 57 in exchange for pick 42 and pick 60 going to the Cats.

• Dylan Shiel has officially parted with the Giants as it's been revealed he will not return to his contract in 2019. Damien Barrett believes the Hawks are leading the four-horse race as the on-baller looks all but set to move interstate.
  
  
• The Fremantle Dockers have opened a dialogue with the Melbourne Demons over key forward Jesse Hogan in a bid to lure the star out west.

The Gold Coast Suns have confirmed their state-league priority selections

It seems unrestricted free agent Daniel Menzel's future is up in the air with Geelong list manager Stephen Wells announcing the club would wait until the end of the trade period before offering the forward a new contract.

Menzel had been linked to the Saints but so far Wells confirmed they had not been contacted by the club. 

"No clubs spoke to us today about Daniel. That’s understandable, Daniel’s an unrestricted free agent, same as he was this time last year,” Wells said.

“He has every right to explore the options that come his way from other clubs without it even involving us.

“We have made it clear to Daniel and his manager that we’re going to wait until the end of the free agency and trade period to sort all of that out.”

The Giants have confirmed Rory Lobb is seeking a trade to the Fremantle Dockers.

The lofty ruck-man was reportedly being chased by both West Coast and the Dockers but it appears Fremantle will be his preferred destination. 

Meanwhile, youngster Will Setterfield has reportedly requested a trade to Carlton. 

It's a move that won't surprise, with many understanding the Blues had all but secured the on-baller as far back as late August. 

Setterfield, who was the fifth pick in the 2016 draft is currently sidelined with a ruptured ACL and is on contract with the Giants until 2020. 

Tom Lynch has spoken for the first time since news became official that he would join the Tigers.

Safe to say the star forward is happy that the deal is finalised.

"It's very exciting to officially be a Tiger today. It's nice that the deal has gone through and I can look forward to getting into training."

Colin Young, premiership-winning Eagle Mark LeCras' manager, tells NAB AFL Trade Radio that he expects the veteran forward to go around for another season in 2019:

"The conversations I've had with him were that he wants to go around again."

There's been talk around today about the West Coast Eagles potentially matching Port Adelaide's offer to Scott Lycett, but that's "fake news" according to his manager Colin Young:

"I'd be surprised if that was the case if West Coast would match. We've been pretty open with West Coast for a while."
