Sometimes the world can be too loud.

Whether your partner's snores are disrupting your night's rest or you possess a real auditory processing difference, a good pair of earplugs can be essential to getting through each day a little less exhausted.

Loop is one brand in a growing market for bespoke earplugs, and it's arguably leading the pack.

Loop earplugs feature a flexible, soft-silicone body for comfort and noise reduction. They come in a variety of fun colours and include a convenient carry case.

I've been using Loop's Quiet earplugs (recently updated to the 'Quiet 2') for about two years now. A far cry from the fluorescent, disposable plugs you can buy at the chemist, these buds have significantly changed my life.

How much noise do the Loop Quiet 2s block?

Loop's website says the Quiet 2s are "made for deeper focus, calmer travel and napping," and "to muffle unwanted noise when you need it most."

The Loop Quiet 2s were, until several months ago, the US-based brand's most heavy-duty earplugs, blocking out up to 24 decibels of sound when properly inserted.

Although Loop recently released the Loop Dream earplugs, which block out 29 decibels, the Quiet earplugs come in at half the price of the Dream earplugs (which cost a slightly excessive $70), making them, in my opinion, the best affordable option from Loop for noise-sensitive individuals.

How comfortable are the Loop Quiet 2 earplugs?

The comfort of the Loops is largely a matter of personal experience and getting used to having something stuck in your ear.

All Loops come with three earplug tip sizes to help you tailor the fit to your ear.

I'm a side sleeper, and I've experienced minimal discomfort from wearing the Loops all night. Sometimes, if I've slept in an odd position, one of my ears might ache, but never enough to stop me from wearing them.

However, my mum, who also wears the Quiet 2 earplugs, frequently complains that they slip out and cause her discomfort due to the shape of her ear. If this is a major concern for you, the Dream earplugs feature a modified oval-shaped tip designed to better fit in the ear.

Get a longer, unbroken sleep or nap

Before owning a pair of Quiet 2 earplugs, I woke up throughout the night and each early morning to the sound of others bumping around the house, or planes screeching along the flight path.

I'd plug in my disposable plugs, which constantly threatened to fall out or shift in my ear, so they stopped being effective noise blockers.

In my experience, the Loops block out mid-level noises around the house such as footsteps, doors shutting, and water running. Although they don't completely block out the louder sounds – such as airplanes overhead, or louder snoring – they make these things less disruptive, facilitating a more peaceful rest.

Block out unwanted noise while travelling or working

I also frequently use my Loop Quiet 2 earplugs while commuting, working, travelling, and even running errands.

Because of my noise sensitivity, the smallest of noises in my environment – people talking loudly on the phone, the roar of traffic on the road, loud music in a cafe or shop, discussions in the workplace – can quickly distract and overstimulate me.

The Loop Quiet 2s reduce this noise while still allowing me to hear others if they ask me something, which is ideal.

While there are other noise reduction options on the market like noise-cancelling headphones (which I also use often), I find the Loops more comfortable for longer-term wear since they don't put physical pressure on my head or use low-frequency active noise cancelling, which I find can cause headaches.

They're also very discreet, looking like any pair of Bluetooth earplugs to most of the world.

Conclusion: Should you buy the Loop Quiet 2 earplugs?

The Loop Quiet 2 earplugs have changed my life for the better.

More than simply reducing sound, they all allow me to feel in control of my environment even when I'm not, reducing my anxiety around sleep and work.

However, Loop offers a wide range of earplug products with varying levels of noise reduction, designed for different contexts.

For example, their Experience 2 earplugs are designed to protect your ears at live music events, while the Engage 2 are made for clearer conversations.

In my opinion, though, the Quiet earplugs offer the broadest range of uses when compared to the rest and therefore are the best value for your money.
