Garmin drops two new smartwatches that will put the rest on notice

Garmin has long-established itself as one of the greatest brands in the smartwatch world. As someone who has used a range of the brand’s models, from the Forerunner to Vivoactive to Venu for running, CrossFit, and Pilates, Garmin is my favourite wearable brand among the industry leaders.

Now, Garmin has launched the latest iteration of the fenix range with the addition of the Garmin fenix 9 and the Garmin fenix 9 Pro. Built with outdoor adventurers in mind, they are a flagship line of high-performance multisport GPS smartwatches armed with brighter displays, a full titanium build, and upgraded internal hardware compared to their predecessors.

Key features

fenix 9 vs fenix 9 Pro: The main difference is that the standard fenix 9 uses a metal bezel with a more traditional build, whereas the fenix 9 Pro features more premium touches like a full titanium case, optional solar charging, and available built-in inReach satellite/LTE messaging.

Bright display: It features a 1.4″ AMOLED display that is over twice as bright as the fenix 8. 

Rugged build: It features leakproof metal buttons, a scratch-resistant sapphire lens, and is tested to U.S. military standards for thermal, shock and water resistance.

Battery life: The watches range from 16 to 31 days in smartwatch mode depending on the model size, while Pro Solar models stretch up to 57 days on a single charge – ideal for long trips or times you forgot to pack charger cables. 

Comprehensive health: Track HRV status, blood oxygen, sleep coach, jet lag advisor, body battery, stress, respiration, and more. With Stamina Curve and Zones, you can monitor your stamina to see if you are improving or fading during a workout. Ideal for when you are training for a race, event, or competition.

LiveTrack: Friends and family can receive automatic start-of-activity notifications through the Garmin Messenger app via LTE connectivity. They can follow your live position or use Garmin Locate to ping your coordinates on a map in real time. 

Weather: Pro inReach models can pull local, detailed weather forecasts, giving you live rain and wind predictions even when far away from mobile towers.

Voice commands: You can record quick voice memos on the go using the built-in microphone, use offline voice commands to start a workout, place phone calls, or drop a GPS pin hands-free. 

Garmin epic: Automatically group multi-day trips into one shareable story, tracking total miles, sleep impact, and drain over time, instead of as individual activities. 

Double memory: With 64 GB of storage, you can load twice as many offline maps and download up to 7,000 songs for phone-free music.
