Google has just revealed its Pixel 10 series which is available for pre-order right now and available in-store and online from August 28, with the Pixel 10 Fold releasing later in October.

Google is dubbing it their "most advanced Pixel experience yet", combining fine-tuned AI experiences, a new powerful chipset and an overall refined design that even delivers a triple camera set-up to their base phone.

Here's everything you need to know.

So what's new about the phones?

This year's line-up features the Google Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel Pro XL and Pixel 10 Fold. All the phones offer a more personalised experience powered by the new Google Tensor G5 chip and the latest AI Gemini Nano model.

An impressive new design

The base model, Pro and Pro XL all refine the iconic camera bar and come with Google's take on wireless charging. Each of these phones now features built-in 'Pixelsnap' for Qi2 wireless charging, offering up to 15W to 25W wireless charging depending on the model.

This series is also the first to feature their latest user interface 'Material 3 Expressive', allowing even more personalisation to your phone, promising up to seven years of OS and security updates. Plus, the phones' displays now peak brighter at 3000 nits.

The Pixel 10 also now comes with huge camera improvements and introduces a 5x telephoto lens on the base model. This is a game-changer, since a lot of budget or mid-range cameras typically don't have a three-camera set-up.

Finally, the new Pro phones offer even more premium value with bigger batteries, upgraded speakers and 16GB RAM.

Most powerful silicon chip yet

Each year, as phone enthusiasts, we look out for performance and spec updates. Of course, when you buy a new model, you want it to be better than the previous one! That's why the Pixel 10 series is introducing its latest custom silicon Tensor G5.

This year, the Pixel series sees nice upgrades. Google

So why is this impressive? Google says it's the "biggest upgrade yet and delivers a major performance boost" that's 60 per cent more powerful TPU-wise and 34 per cent faster on average CPU compared to the Pixel 9 series. That's some serious upgrades.

Plus, the new chip allows the Pixel phones to last up to 30 hours, and the chip also empowers the new Gemini Nano model (more on that soon).

Google's new AI model and features

The Pixel 10 series delivers what Google claims to be the "most advanced on-device AI on any phone". The biggest new feature is the 'Magic Cue', which is a proactive AI feature that works across all your apps to automatically provide relevant information and actions when you need them.

Think about it as a feature to save you time from searching for things yourself. For example, finding flight details during a call or searching for a specific photo for a message – all completed without ever leaving the app you're using.

Another new AI feature is the Gemini 'Camera Coach' available within the camera app too. It's in its name what it will do, essentially suggesting ways to improve your shots and composition.

Finally, the new 'Pro Res Zoom' exclusive to the Pro and Pro XL models promises to capture extreme detail up to 100x zoom by using all-new generative imaging models to recover detail.

Pixel 10 Fold upgrades

Google has been heating up its foldable game with its latest announcement of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, releasing on October 9. Here's what's new with it.

Featuring a hinge that's twice as durable as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold's and aerospace-grade aluminium, this phone boasts an IP68 water and dust resistance rating. This is genuinely a first for foldable phones, and it fixes one of my biggest qualms with foldable phones – the inevitable dust build-up. Well done, Google!

Aside from offering the same protection as their other Pixel 10 phones, Google also promises up to 10 years of folding. Appropriate for its name, right? Both displays are getting an upgrade too: 6.4 inches folded, 8 inches unfolded, all 3000 nits peak brightness.

Likewise, there are better AI features, a better battery and a new, improved foldable camera – introducing a new 48MP camera, allowing the triple camera set-up to take amazing photos regardless of need.

Which phone is right for you?

It's always a tough choice when choosing a new phone, but here's a general rule of thumb to consider when choosing. Consider your budget, preferred screen size, importance of cameras, need for AI features and your desired battery life.

If you're on a smaller budget, I'd suggest always going with the base model the brand offers. In this case, the Google Pixel 10 will serve you well if you want more or less the same experience. Plus, with the introduction of a three-camera set-up, Google's seriously upped their game in this tier.

If you want a flagship experience, but a smaller, compact device, the Google Pixel 10 Pro will be the best choice for you. It has the same screen size as the base model, but comes with most of the flagship capabilities of the Pro XL (including a higher display quality).

If you want a big phone with a flagship experience, the Google Pixel 10 Pro XL will be the right choice here with the 6.8-inch display and bigger battery.

Finally, if you're after a foldable phone this year and have a bit of a budget to blow, the Google Pixel Fold 10 is the only choice they offer. Albeit a very promising offer. If you're after a flip phone, your best bet might be looking at the Samsung Z Flip 7 or Motorola Razr 60.
