If you've avoided Kindles in the past for their colourless experience, things are about to change. Amazon has announced a new Kindle in their e-reading lineup: the Kindle Colorsoft.

Available today, the Colorsoft is the first Kindle to show colour on screen, with all prior models only showing black and white. This is a game-changer for those who love graphic novels or want to browse books that rely heavily on illustrations or photography. Now, you can enjoy colour on your Kindle screen.

The new Kindle also allows readers to highlight passages in yellow, orange, blue, and pink, instead of classic grey. These highlight colours can be used for filtering later on, making them ideal for texts you might be studying, or different annotations you're making across the book.

In addition to the colourful screen, the Kindle Colorsoft features enhanced custom coatings on its display, along with a light guide with micro-deflectors that aim to reduce any glare. Also, if you prefer reading on a dark screen, you can now invert the Kindle's regular colourway to read white text on a black screen if desired.

This waterproof Kindle also has up to eight weeks of battery life, making it as close to a book as the Kindle has gotten so far.

In addition to the Kindle Colorsoft, Amazon has also released the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, which has 32GB of storage (double that of the Kindle Colorsoft). This edition has an auto-adjusting front light and the option to charge wirelessly. However, the wireless charging dock is sold separately.

Amazon also offers the option to add a case for your new Kindle Colorsoft, with premium leather covers available in colours Jade and Walnut, and plant-based leather covers available in Black, Jade, and Raspberry.
