I found the perfect white tee for just $19

I don't know about you, but my hunt for the perfect white tee has been a series of trial and error that has spanned multiple years and cost many (many) dollars.

As the cornerstone piece in every single person's wardrobe, having a white T-shirt that feels comfortable on and fits your body well is key to unlocking outfit combinations you didn't even know existed... but there's just one slight problem: finding that shirt is about as easy as finding a needle in a haystack.

Every brand you can think of has most likely released its own iteration of this 'perfect white tee', but having tried a bunch of them myself, I wasn't convinced.

However, that was until I popped by my all-time favourite store, Uniqlo, and spotted the Mini T-Shirt for only $19.90.

Now I will preface by saying, nothing I have bought from Uniqlo has ever disappointed me, but my expectations were low for this $20 white tee, because if the expensive ones I had tried weren't doing it for me, then how could this affordable one possibly stand a chance, right?

Wrong. Immediately upon putting it on my body, I was shocked. It was fitted, but not too tight, and the length was a perfect balance that was short enough not to be tucked, but long enough that it wasn't unnecessarily cropped.

The quality is also incredible, and no matter how often I machine wash, spot clean, or soak the fabric (which is essential to keeping it white), it always bounces back good as new, which is thanks to its 96 per cent cotton and 4 per cent elastane fabrication.

All in all, this white tee is a piece I have bought time and time again, and I have even branched out into buying some of the other colours too!

I plan to keep this tee on permanent rotation in my wardrobe for the rest of my life because it is just that good.

How to keep whites white without bleach?

To prevent any yellowing or discolouration of your white T-shirts, there are a few steps you can take. When washing, keep your whites separated from any other colours to avoid coloured dyes bleeding.

You can also add some baking soda into the washing machine alongside your detergent (check your machine's settings first), and then air-dry to maintain that bright colour.

A 100 per cent cotton fabrication is the best option for a T-shirt because it is a natural fibre, which means it is both a comfortable and breathable fabric, making it perfect for year-round wear.

Cotton is also far more durable than its synthetic competitors, looking better for longer and lasting through washing and drying cycles.

How to find a white T-shirt that isn't see-through?

When shopping for a white T-shirt, the easiest way to ensure you won't be purchasing something see-through is to opt for a thicker fabric, because the thicker the fabric, the more opaque the shirt will be.
