I guess 'ugly' shoes are actually a thing now

As long as Crocs have been around (two decades for anyone wondering), I've done my best to avoid them. For the most part, I assumed people were wearing them ironically, or they'd lost every other pair of shoes they own and it was either go barefoot or Crocs. I wasn't buying that people actually thought they were stylish, and I certainly wasn't anticipating they'd reach It-shoe status.

But here we are, in 2022, where a long list of celebrities have a collaboration with the 'ugly' shoe to their name, people are seriously wearing them to red carpet events, and Balenciaga is crafting heels and platform creepers with the brand, slapping on an eye-watering $1500 price tag, and calling it 'high fashion'. Perhaps it's time to concede that Crocs – with their Jibbitz and all – are actually a thing now?!
