I've never appreciated anything more than I do this pill box

This may look like the pill stash of someone who has a bit going on and to be fair it is. Between my endless pursuit for optimum health and countless rounds of IVF (if you know, you know) I needed a place to put my bits and I found it – for $18.

For too long I'd resisted the urge to buy a pill box – even after five-star reviews and recommendations from the elderly in my life. I was determined to remember what to take and when. But while I may have my memory (for now), an organised kitchen counter I did not. The kitchen bench and surrounding cupboards, plus the bathroom, my bedside table and every bag I've ever owned were screaming at me to "just buy a pill box, dammit!". 

The sudden need for some sort of supplement organiser came when I was packing for a flight. Playing Tetris with carry-on is stressful enough, throw in a bunch of glass bottles, blister packs and annoyingly oversized boxes and you've upgraded to fresh hell 5 kg over the carry-on allowance. I was desperate for help.

Pill boxes are very personal, I've come to learn. There's no one size fits all (figurative and literally) so finding a method that packs them all without confusing the mostly white and identical capsules has required trial and error.

My brief: find a compact pill box that will fit more than a week's worth of tablets, big enough to hold the nine tablets I need to take each day, but be small, and not the colours of the rainbow (looks are important even when shopping for a plastic box, okay).

• Hold up to two weeks' worth of tablets – that's 126 tablets if you're a Tetris top scorer

• Fit into most small bags

• Help you identify your tablets with the handy stickers included. I didn't need to use these as my tablets aren't time-sensitive they only need to be taken daily, plus, I like to flex my muscle memory

• Keep things other than pills in order. Want a simple way to organise your jewelery? this will do the job

It won't:

• Make you look like you're carting around a box of tablets, thanks to its slim design

• Protect your pills from extreme temperatures. It's not temp controlled so if you leave this out in the sun on a hot day (but why would you?) it's not going to do your gel caps any favours

• Make swallowing your huge tablets easier. Sadly, nothing will.

Originally purchased as a travel companion, I've used this pill box every day since. Each Sunday I top up the compartments with the supplements I need to take each day for the next week and triumphantly clap the wallet shut because I've finally become that person who has their s— together. Or at least a tiny part of it.
