We quizzed NRLW athlete Kennedy Cherrington about the arts and crafts she uses to decompress, her favourite noise-cancelling headphones, and the brow gel she is loving at the moment.

What gets you through big training days?

I’m big on over-ear JBL headphones, particularly ones that are noise-cancelling; they help me feel like I’m ready to train and play, and get me into that focus mode.

My boots are Asics, and I take my big Yeti water bottle everywhere because we have to drink a lot of water – if you don’t, you feel it in your performance. 

I’ll also always carry my big hand sanitiser, a Fenty lip gloss, a lip kit, a brush, and a spare pair of earrings.

What makes you feel confident on the field?

Probably when I have my lashes done, I like a normal lash. I’ve stopped getting extensions because of footy, it’s just aggravating. So, I love a lash lift, then a mascara, or an eyelash curler with a mascara. I feel like it just opens up your eyes, along with a brow gel. I love the Anastasia one at the moment.

What are your travel must-haves?

A big tote. I’ve always got a backpack on at footy, so it’s nice to have something different. Honestly, I love to take my iPad, headphones, drink bottle, chargers, and cameras. My tote bag is my go-to because it feels like I’m in a different, chill environment.

What gear do you swear by?

When I’m away from footy, probably just a matching set. I like high-waisted shorts, then just a normal crop top. I feel like I have to look good to train well; there’s going to be those days, but wearing activewear makes me feel good. 

Then off the field on the chill days, I love a tracky set. Anything thick, cosy, comfy, like a big hug around you – swallowed up in a massive hoodie. Oh, and my Whoop, it’s great for recovery!

What helps you switch off?

Self-care days for me would definitely be just staying home. Staying home, trying a new restaurant with my family – I think I really enjoy those moments we share together because, often, you get older, we spend less time with each other because we’re all running around crazy. 

So, being present in those moments with my family is really, really special. Lego is something that honestly challenges me. Rugby League is footy, footy, footy, footy, footy, and mentally different, but I like that creative outlet. I love creating content. I love building things. I love colouring in and tapping into a different creative space. Knitting! Pottery! I just want to make vases.
