However, it's important to be picky with your cotton sheet collection. Some people often find cotton sheets a little scratchy and uncomfortable. A good rule of thumb is the higher the thread count, the softer the fabric, so keep that in mind when shopping for cotton sheets.

The spendy option

If you're into your skincare, you likely already sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase. The idea behind this is that the smoothness of the fibres is likely to reduce fine lines and wrinkles on your face and keep your hair from getting mussed by catching on the rougher fabric. Silk sheets also have many benefits – they're very breathable and naturally cooling. Also, the cellular structure of silk draws moisture from the body, so if you're a hot sleeper, they might be your best bet.

The unique option

We're calling linen sheets 'unique' as many people find them uncomfortable to sleep on. However, some people love their linen sheets and take great joy in pulling them out each summer. If you're a bit unsure about linen but keen to try them out, it's worth noting that linen does soften each time you wash it. However, you want to stick to lighter colours, as heavily dyed linen can shed.
